Below the waterline
It is recommended that new antifouling is applied annually to ensure adequate protection. Assuming the existing coating is sound and that you are overcoating with the same antifouling:
- Wash surface with freshwater, remove any loose paint and allow to dry before applying antifouling.
- Refer to antifouling section for more detailed information.
For areas where the coatings are damaged, filling and priming may be necessary prior to application of Underwater Primer and Blakes Antifouling.
- Freshwater wash, abrade surface with 100-240 grade abrasive paper. Clean thoroughly with Surface Cleaner .
- Spot prime and fill where necessary using appropriate materials. Fair areas which have been filled, apply further coats of primer to encapsulate the filler.
- Applying Underwater Primer and Blakes Antifouling.
- Start painting at "Tie coat" on appropriate specification.
